Ride with Friends to the Piedmont Earth Day Fair

We are happy to be hosting not just one but two rides to the 2013 Piedmont Earth Day Fair on Saturday at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds.

One ride will leave from downtown - Caffe Prade (our normal ride location) at 10:30am and take a lovely route down Runnymeade and around to Arbor finally to the fairgrounds.  The other ride will start at 12:00pm (Noon) from the Library on Wake Forest University's main campus and will head to the fairgrounds via Reynolda Gardens and Graylyn.  Both rides include some of the best parts of our normal rides and will lead to the premier Earth Day fair in the Piedmont.  The weather forecast is predicting low 70's and partly cloudy.  Should be perfect biking weather.  While you are at the fair, our friends at WS Greenways will watch your bike at their FREE bike valet.  Also feel free to chat with members of the Winston-Salem Bicycle Cooperative and learn how to tune up your bike and solve simple problems like flat tires yourself.

The Piedmont Earth Day Fair runs from 10am-5pm and will feature live music, natural food vendors, foothills brewery, and over 100 environmentally minded merchants and organizations.  There are lots of activities for the young and young at heart.

Cycle Sunday was a Success!

Thanks to everyone who joined us last week for Cycling Sunday. We had about 250 people show up for the event, which was great. Cycling Sunday will be back in the spring of 2012 with a new course and a host of new activities, so stay tuned for that.

The Winston-Salem Community Bike Ride is back this Sunday, October 2 with an all route through the Washington Park and Konnoak Hills neighborhoods. It's a good route, but a little hilly, so we may cut the mileage back. We also have to ride on Main Street and Broad Street for about 1/3 mile each. Those streets should not be too busy on Sunday afternoon, but they are probably the *potentially* busiest streets we will have ridden.

Community Bike Ride - September 11th

More beautiful weather and another great turnout for the second Community Bike Ride.  Around forty five people came out to participate.  It was good to see familiar faces from the August 28 ride along with a lot of new faces.

One of the new riders was Bob who is visiting from Holland for three weeks. It was great chatting with him about bicycles and how they are used in his country.

The ride was a nice scenic route from Downtown up to the Wake Forest loop and back.  Below are a few photos from the start of the ride and some from the end. Check back later for photos from Kate and Bob.

If you missed this weeks ride don't worry because we'll have next week's route posted soon.  Be sure to follow us on twitter and join our facebook page as well for updates and other bike related information.

First Community Ride a Success!

Last Sunday was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and there was a breeze. About 50 bikers met at Caffe Prada for the first community bike ride. We were hopeful about a great turn out, but this exceeded our expectations. It was exciting to see Winston-Salem community bikers come together for an afternoon that will not soon be forgotten. The ride began at Caffe Prada and and went to the Salem Creek Greenway, there were bikers of all ages and ability levels. Please join us for the next ride on Sunday, September 11 at 3pm at Caffe Prada for our next community adventure.

Community Bike Ride - August 28th

The goal  of the Winston-Salem Community Bike Ride is to bring together people of all ages and abilities who share an interest in biking, and to create a welcoming recreational ride for everyone, while building a strong bicycling community in Winston. The plan is to host a weekly group ride on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 beginning August 28th. Different bike routes and greenways will be explored throughout Winston-Salem averaging 8 - 10 miles. The ride is open to absolutely everyone regardless of age or skill level, riding at a slow pace so no one will be left behind. Safety, comfort, and enjoyment are the top priorities, so routes will be selected based on suitability for all skill levels and try to incorporate greenways when possible.
